Install FileMaker Server
In this video you will learn how to install FileMaker Server.
FileMaker Server will host your data so that users can access Briefcase on the network.
You can download FileMaker Server from the resources tab in the My Account area on our website.
This installation must be done on your server, not a workstation.
After downloading, unzip the FileMaker Server folder, launch the installer and follow the prompts to continue.
When finished, the installer will launch the Deployment Assistant in your web browser.
Choose a user name and password to login and administer the server, making a note of your login details.
Then choose a name to identify your server.
Select the technologies used by the server. If you are hosting PHP websites on this server you may choose to disable Web Publishing. If enabled the Deployment Assistant will install its own supported version of PHP which may not be compatible with your sites.
In most cases you can leave all the settings as they are and click Next.
In step four leave the Deployment Type as single machine and click Next.
Click Next on the summary and then click Finish.
You will be redirected to the Admin Console, this where you manage the server, we’ll revisit this area in other video tutorials so take a note of the UTL used to access this page.

Briefcase For Private Hosts
In this video you will learn how to install Briefcase.
Download Briefcase from the resources tab in the My Account area of our website. First ensure that you have installed FileMaker Pro on all workstations and FileMaker Server on the computer that will host Briefcase.
We will use FileMaker Pro to upload the necessary files from your local drive to FileMaker Server.
Let's begin by downloading Briefcase to a workstation.
Unzip the download and launch FileMaker Pro.
Select Sharing from the File Menu and then Upload to FileMaker Server.
Select Local Hosts from the Hosts menu. You should see the server name and IP address of the computer running Filemaker Server. Select the host; enter the admin name and password. These are the same credentials created in the deployment assistant during the FileMaker Server install.
Now select the files to upload, click Browse and navigate to the Briefcase folder, select all the files within this folder and click Open.
Once the uploads are complete, delete the original Briefcase download from the workstation.
From the File menu select Open Remote. Select Local Hosts from the Hosts menu. Select the host and click on Briefcase in the list of available files then click Open.
The first time you launch Briefcase you’ll need to complete the setup, do this first before other users connect. Follow this guide to setup.
Once you have finished setup, you can invite other users to login. See the guide for Connecting Users more information.
